Summary	Full-length, standing portrait of George Washington based on the Gilbert Stuart Lansdowne painting. Washington, dressed in black with a lace jabot and buckled shoes, faces the viewer. In his left hand is a sword and his right hand holds a book on a table. A chair is behind him to the right, four large marble columns behind him. A draped table with books is to his right. Four books are scattered on the floor beneath the table; floor has a titled pattern. Engraving is after a painting by Peter Frederick Rothermel based on the Gilbert Stuart Lansdowne portrait of George Washington. Facsimile autograph beneath image provides title. Printed between painter and engraver credit: "Boston, L.A. Elliot & Co." The firm of L.A. Elliot & Co. were printsellers in Boston between 1857 and 1858. This fact provides the date for this impression of the print. Copyright statement reads: "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1852 by R. A. Bachia & Co., in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the Southern District of New York." Purchased January 2003. #2003.2 (no.1). References: Hart, 668c.
