During the course of Louis Prang’s career , his firm produced nearly 800 chromolithographic art reproductions . There was a “chromo” for every customer : genre scenes , landscapes , portraits , and still-lifes . Some of these were art reproductions such as The North Woods and An Old Man’s Reminiscences (both on view in this room) , but playful pictures of farm animals and children were extremely popular in the agrarian society of nineteenth-century America . The Prize Piggies was said to be the most popular picture of 1891 . In response to high demand , a second edition was produced and offered with a frame resembling a pig pen , a trough , and a shingled roof . The framer’s monogram can be seen in the lower left corner of the print .
Summary
A picture of five small pigs in a pigsty looking out of a framed barn window .
