As with the Black Valley Railroad , this print was issued in at least two different states . The first state included the artists’ names in the lower left and right corners ; for some unknown reason , the names were scratched out on the stone for the second state . The two states were also inked differently , most noticeably in the area of the sky . In the first state , the tone of the sky was achieved by laying gray ink over pale blue , and the clouds were more fully developed by removing pigment on the stone . In the second state , a vibrant blue ink was applied to the sky for a completely different effect . The dissimilar tonal quality of the two prints illustrates how color could influence the mood of a print . The Grand National Peace Jubilee celebrated the end of the Civil War with four days of musical events held in the Coliseum , a temporary structure located near present-day Copley Square . Promoters claimed that the Coliseum was the largest building in America and could accommodate fifty thousand people and an orchestra of a thousand . In their advertisement for this print , the New England Lithographic Company characterized their chromolithograph as both a “worthy memento” and “a work of art.”
