A very rare broadside that employs a metaphor derived from the life of a seafarer, Murrell’s map presents the hazards of drink, as opposed to the saving grace of abstinence, while charting the Ocean of Life. The ocean lies between two continents representing opposing principles of inebriety, in the West, and sobriety, in the East. Murrell printed two editions of this map, one in Boston, the other in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. |
