Summary
A view of the Round Hill School in Northampton , Mass . Round Hill was an elite preparatory school for boys that was in existence from 1823 until 1824 . The lithograph shows the school after the main buildings were expanded with wings and an ell in 1826/1827 . The view shows the surrounding land and other buildings in the vicinity , including two Greek Revival residences designed by Ithiel Town : the Charles Dewey house (later the Capen School and later owned by Smith College) and the Joseph Bowers mansion . Two men , one on a horse , occupy the center foreground . One of at least seven drawings and lithographs of Round Hill created by Eliza Goodridge between 1824 and 1829 . The original drawing for this lithograph is in the Prints & Photographs Department of the Boston Athenaeum (See "A View of Round Hill , Northampton , Mass.
